Reading Reflections
#1- I grew in the understanding that classic writers are just like contemporary writers in that they used a variety of literary tools for different purposes, including to entertain, to explain and to characterize. When we first started reading classic texts I was not able to pull of signposts and other literary elements to help me understand the texts more. I had a really difficult time understanding these texts until we started to look at the literary devices to make meaning of the text. I choose my 9H Odessy essay and my Romeo and Juliet monologue because they are good examples of how I pulled out literary devices from classic texts to make meaning of them and find themes and concepts.
#2-I choose the understanding that authors use identifiable, predictable, literary tools to create meaning. I really saw my growth in this understanding during our lit circles unit. I really was able to pull out clues from my book that hinted at the ending of the book. Previously I would've just read my book and been completely surprised at the end. In this book I paid attention to a lot of the foreshadowing and flashbacks that pointed to how the book might end. The two artifacts I choose are my lit circle discussion guide and my screencastify discussion because they show how i was documenting what I was reading and what I thought it meant.

Writing Reflections
#1- I grew in the understanding that I can identify and employ logos, ethos, and pathos appeals. Before this year I had never used ethos, pathos, and logos and I didn't really know what they were. When we started our projects on our lit circles book I started to see how important they are to persuade an audience. When creating my S'more I spent a lot of time on my ethos, pathos, and logos and feel like they really worked well in my presentation. I was also able to identify ethos, pathos and logos in other work so I could be understand how to use them in my own work.
#2- I grew in the understanding that I can break down a text into smaller logical pieces. I grew in this because in the past I would try to make sense of large texts all in one piece, this year I started to break large texts down and make sense of them in smaller pieces and I found that I ended up understanding the texts better this way. Two artifacts that really demonstrate this are my Romeo and Juliet explication and my odyssey literary analysis paragraph because I took small sections of texts and pulled out themes and concepts or made meaning of them.
