Reading #1
I grew in the understanding that I can think actively about the connections I’m making and the questions I have when I read. When we begun the research unit I would just read through an article not making any connections or questioning it. After working as a class I’ve got to the point where I know read through an article and can make connections and question it in order to make sure I’m getting accurate information. These two artifacts demonstrate how I grew in this understanding because I wrote out questions and connections in the margins of the text.

Reading #2
I grew in the understanding that sometimes authors have hidden messages and concepts in their work. When I first started looking at poetry for my prose poetry project I was having trouble finding Poems that paired with my prose because I was reading them to literally. When I started to look deeper into the poems more more indirect meanings I had a lot more success in finding poems to go along with my prose. These two artifacts demonstrate how I grew in this understanding because they don’t literally have the same concept as my prose but when I made more meaning of the text I was able to connect them back to my Prose.

Reading #3
I typically don’t really like independent reading and don’t spend very much time outside of class reading. I often to struggle to find books that I really get into. Although I didn’t read as much outside of class as I wanted too, I found books this Tri that I was really into and enjoyed reading. Next tri I really wanna focus on reading more in my free time because I think that I really can enjoy reading more if I just push myself to do it more.
This Tri I read
American Street
All American Boys

Writing #1
I grew in the understanding that I can create a creative project that offers new insights into themes, symbols, and characters. I normally don’t like creating projects and am not a creative person. I would typically opt for an option of just writing a formal paper. Once I started to craft creative projects for my poetry I realized how much it can ass to the text. These artifacts are a good example of how presenting my work in a creative way can add so much to the actual text in my work.

Speaking #1
I grew in the understanding that I can deliver a presentation effectively. Overall I don’t mind presenting in front of the class and am pretty confident. I sometimes struggle with having animation in my voice and talking really fast. On my prose poetry presentation I lost points for those two things but I felt that with my quote of the day I did a much better job talking slower and with more animation.

Participation
I excelled in being a leader in small groups. For example when we worked in groups to write our sonnets I took a leadership role in writing that and making sure it got done. I also respect other ideas for example when we were discussing To Kill A Monckingbird I respected others ideas even if I didn’t agree with them. An area I need to improve in is making sure I always am participating in class discussions. Sometimes I get lost in my own thoughts rather than offering ideas to whole class discussions. I also sometimes didn’t ask thoughtful questions, I would often ask questions that were off topic and not related to the conversation.
